A Celebration of Speech, Eurythmy, and Drama

In 1924, Rudolf Steiner made three significant contributions to the arts of drama, eurythmy, and speech. Now, one hundred years later, we are coming together to celebrate these three courses, known as Eurythmy As Visible Singing, Eurythmy As Visible Speech, and the Speech and Drama Course, and explore how these arts are living today.

We warmly invite you to join us for a weeklong immersive experience of drama, eurythmy, and speech, with classes and performances by Zachary Dolphin, John McManus, Sea-Anna Vasilas, with music by Grigory Smirnov, and other artists.

From August 12 to August 16, we will spend each day moving, speaking, and creating together. We look forward to welcoming you!

Open to all levels of experience,
including beginners and seasoned artists.

Course Fee: $500

Pre-registration is required!
Register by August 7th!

Sea-Anna Vasilas, a graduate of the School of Eurythmy at Eurythmy Spring Valley, has been a member of the Eurythmy Spring Valley Ensemble since 2011 and a member of the School of Eurythmy faculty since 2012. She leads public eurythmy courses and workshops within the contexts of biodynamic agriculture, biography and social art, the Christian Community Church, and the Anthroposophical Society in North America. Sea-Anna is inspired by artistic collaborations with musicians and actors, and is currently working on developing a eurythmy program based on the story of Bip, inspired by Marcel Marceau. She holds an MA in Performance Eurythmy from Alanus University (Germany).

Zachary Dolphin graduated from Eurythmy Spring Valley after completing five years of full-time training in 2018. In years following, he performed internationally as a member of the Eurythmy Spring Valley Ensemble and in collaboration with Anthropos Theater. He first began working with eurythmy pedagogically in 2019 and has increasingly devoted his attention to education since then. After gaining a breadth of experience in the River Valley, Apple Blossom, Mountain Laurel, and Housatonic Valley Waldorf Schools, as well as homeschooling initiatives and the Otto Specht School, he is glad to be teaching for children in nursery through 6th grade at the Rudolf Steiner School in New York City, and working towards a Master of Education degree with a focus in eurythmy through Alanus University.

John McManus has studied creative speech and eurythmy, and the voice and speech techniques of Patsy Rodenburg, Kristin Linklater, and Lois Colaianni. He has worked internationally as an actor, director, and teacher, and was a founding member and artistic director of Walking the Dog Theater (Australia) and Shakespeare Alive! (USA). He has taught creative speech and the Michael Chekhov Acting Technique at MICHA since 2011, and also at many other institutions, including HB Studios (USA), Actor’s Center (Australia), The Dipartmento Delle Arti, University Bologna, (Italy). He has recently retired after 8 years of teaching speech and drama at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA, and now works as a freelance actor, director, and teacher.

Grigory Smirnov is a pianist and composer working with Eurythmy Spring Valley, the school and performing ensemble. His compositions have been performed on major stages worldwide, such as Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Tanglewood Festival, Goetheanum, and Moscow Philharmonic Hall. As a pianist, he performs classical and improvisational music, his own compositions, and music for eurythmy. Originally from Siberia, Russia, he came to the United States in 2008. He holds music degrees from Novosibirsk Conservatory in Russia and The Juilliard School in New York City. Since 2019, he has been working in the Threefold Community in Spring Valley, NY.
