The Story of ESV

Home to the School of Eurythmy and the Eurythmy Spring Valley Ensemble, Eurythmy Spring Valley is part of the Threefold community of work based on the indications of Rudolf Steiner.

The School of Eurythmy offers a four-year full-time training recognized by the Section for the Performing Arts in Dornach, Switzerland; a low-residency part-time training called Frontier Eurythmy; a postgraduate program in advanced stagecraft; and workshops and intensives for practicing eurythmists and the general public.

The Eurythmy Spring Valley Ensemble has toured and performed continuously since 1986, bringing full evening programs, children’s programs, and special performance projects to schools, communities, and conferences all over North America, Europe, and Asia.

ESV was founded in 1972, but its origins go back more than a century, to the time when Rudolf Steiner was inspiring people from all over the world with his innovative and future-oriented insights into every aspect of human culture. His expressive and healing vision for human movement, music, speech, and lighting emerged in 1912 in the new art form of eurythmy.

American seekers who encountered Steiner in Europe in the years following the First World War brought home a passionate commitment to bringing Steiner's ideas about society, spirituality, medicine, education, and the arts to life in North America. Among these pioneers were the founders of the Threefold Group in New York City, who in 1926 purchased the property now home to the Threefold community. Since the community's earliest days, eurythmy has been a hallmark of conferences and gatherings large and small.
