Speech and Drama workshop
with Séamus Maynard
Sunday, April 21, 2024
2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Side Room at the Threefold Auditorium
260 Hungry Hollow Road, Chestnut Ridge, NY 10977
Workshop Fee: $50
The arts of speech and drama stand in a dynamic position at this time. There are many highly trained and gifted artists in the world currently, while a deeper understanding of the purpose of the arts remains theoretical. Rudolf Steiner's indications on speech and drama and Michael Chekhov's approach to acting shed light on what could be a practice for the theater of the future, yet those approaches to speech and drama continue to exist in early stages of development, while the world of commercial art making accelerates forward. In this workshop, we will strive to understand how to bring ourselves into relationship with the living arts of speech and drama, illuminated by the light of anthroposophy, in such a way that our practicing may remain connected to the future.

Two paths of initiation intersect — the Arthurian path (representing working in a group) and the Parzival path (the initiation path of the individual) — in this dramatized poetic verse adaptation from the Parzival legend, written and performed by Séamus Maynard.
